Available Internships
We have many internships and work-study positions available for undergraduate and graduate students at many of the local colleges and universities in Chittenden County. Some of the more notiable ones:
Summer Internship
- Help survivors of violence by answering our 24 hour hotline and providing crisis support, options, and referrals:
- May through Aug internship
- Must attend 31 hours of volunteer training
- Must take 3-4 hotline shifts a week (available shifts for interns: M, T, W, Th, F 9am-5pm and M, T, W, Th 5pm-9am)
Hotline Internship
- Help survivors of violence by answering our 24 hour hotline and providing crisis support, options, and referrals:
- 2 semester/one year internship (usually starts during Fall semester)
- Must attend 31 hours of volunteer training
- Must take 3-4 hotline shift a month (available shifts for interns: M, T, W, Th, F 9am-5pm and M, T, W, Th 5pm-9am)
Computer/Website/IT Support Internship
- Help office with IT support, computer issues problem solving, software updating, and website support as needed:
- 1 or 2 semester internship
- Must be able to work as least 3-4 hours a week
Legal/Court Watch Internship
- Gain understanding of the legal system, family court, relief from abuse orders (restraining orders), and other legal aspects of supporting survivors:
- 1 semester internship (not offered every year)
- Must attend 20 hours of volunteer training
- Must be available during court hours
Grant Writing and Research Internship
- Help fund programs for survivors of violence and learn an important job skill at the same time:
- 1-2 semester internship
- Must attend 10 core hours of volunteer training
- Must have excellent writing and organization skills to qualify for this internship
Outreach and Events Internships
- Help coordinate our annual outreach events, such as the Clothesline Project, Red Flag Display, Take Back the Night, the Healing Fire, 5K Run Against Rape, and benefit concerts at local colleges and in downtown Burlington venues during Sexual Violence Awareness Month in April
- Full year internship only, (must be available to start in fall)
- Must attend 20 hours of volunteer training
Outreach Events Direct Service Internships
- Help provide emotional and crisis support to survivors of violence at our annual outreach events, such as the Clothesline Project, Take Back the Night, and the Healing Fire during Sexual Violence Awareness Month in April.
- Must attend 31 hours of volunteer training and be available for specific events in April
- Spring semester only, multiple internships available
Media/Video/Photography Internship
- Help video tape, edit, and produce a DVD of our trainings; create a PSA; direct a short video highlighting the work of our community partners, etc.
- 1-2 semester internship (not offered every year)
- Graphic design, photography and video experience required; must have access to own equipment
Marketing and Development Internship
- Help coordinate a fundraising and awareness-raising event for the WRCC, help with graphic design of materials, soliciting local businesses for donations, and marketing.
- 1 semester internship (not offered every year)
- Graphic design experience prefered
